What is Writing to Me?
I often ask myself: What is writing, really?
Is it just about writing and putting some words together?
Or is it about pondering through critical thinking?
Or is it about an investigation that an individual undertakes in this sick society?
Or is it about finding some solution through writing?
Or does writing have the power to heal our souls, to help us be seen, to be heard?
And, why do I want to write?
I want to write because I want to find my own voice, my own calling. I want this voice to reach those struggling in silence.
I want to write because I want to honour the autonomy of this life.
I want to take responsibility for this mysterious existence of ours.
I want to write because I want to exercise the fullest capacity of my own brain, of my own heart.
I want to write because I want to understand the intelligence of this human body to observe this universe.
I want to write to observe life’s newness that it offers each day.
To craft a little child’s intense thrill after discovering the moon in the sky.
To store a heartfelt conversation with a home-maid aunt who stays far from her own home to earn money.
To share the joy of simple things like walking, and surrendering to the wind.
Are there other reasons to write?
Writing about the person who cleans the road when we are all asleep.
Writing about those persons who use their whole body to clean our unorganised, dirty trash for their livelihood.
Writing to explore different perspectives, to find resolutions to life’s complexities.
I don’t want to agree with what the reputed writers said nor do I want to disagree. But I want to investigate, brainstorm, research, find out what my own consciousness is saying.
I want to write to find out those readers who want to think for themselves, cultivate their brain to create their own autonomy within themselves.
Lastly, I want to write because I don’t know everything—
Nor do I want to—
But I want to spend my life on learning and lifelong exploration,
Like a little child who never stops wondering after seeing a bird in the sky.
